the eyes are unable or have difficulty maintaining parallel alignment and focusing on the same target in the same direction. Usually, one eye plays the dominant role while the other deviates. However, there are cases in which both eyes deviate alternately. Strabismus can appear at a very young age, even before six months (congenital strabismus). There are various types of strabismus, such as hypertropia (the deviating eye \u201clooks\u201d upward), esotropia (the deviating eye \u201clooks\u201d toward the nose), exotropia, and others.<\/p><p>Early diagnosis is therefore very important, as it can prevent permanent problems, such as loss of vision in the deviating eye (amblyopia or \u201clazy eye\u201d) and help detect more serious underlying pathological conditions.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-tab-title elementor-tab-mobile-title\" aria-selected=\"false\" data-tab=\"2\" role=\"tab\" tabindex=\"-1\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-5422\" aria-expanded=\"false\">Causes<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-5422\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"2\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-5422\" tabindex=\"0\" hidden=\"hidden\"><p>This condition can be caused by various factors, such as:<\/p><ul><li>Refractive errors such as hyperopia or <a href=\"https:\/\/eye-center.gr\/myopia\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"\u039c\u03c5\u03c9\u03c0\u03af\u03b1\">myopia<\/a><\/li><li>Heredity<\/li><li>Neuro-ophthalmologic disorders<\/li><li>Illness or high fever<\/li><li>Intense emotional or stressful situations.<\/li><\/ul><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-tab-title elementor-tab-mobile-title\" aria-selected=\"false\" data-tab=\"3\" role=\"tab\" tabindex=\"-1\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-5423\" aria-expanded=\"false\">Effects<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-5423\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"3\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-5423\" tabindex=\"0\" hidden=\"hidden\"><p>The effects of strabismus can significantly impact a child\u2019s daily life and psychological well-being.<\/p><ul><li>The most important effect concerns vision, leading to the development of amblyopia, the \u201clazy\u201d eye. This occurs because the deviating eye gradually fails to develop properly due to the incorrect image it receives.<\/li><li>Due to the two eyes not working together properly, depth perception (stereopsis) is impaired.<\/li><li>Finally, the aesthetic aspect of the eye deviation can visibly affect a child\u2019s psychology.<\/li><\/ul><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-tab-title elementor-tab-mobile-title\" aria-selected=\"false\" data-tab=\"4\" role=\"tab\" tabindex=\"-1\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-5424\" aria-expanded=\"false\">Treatment<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-5424\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"4\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-5424\" tabindex=\"0\" hidden=\"hidden\"><p>Treatment of strabismus aims to restore and maintain good vision as well as realign the deviating eyes. After a comprehensive ophthalmologic examination to determine the underlying causes, the ophthalmologist can recommend the appropriate treatment.<\/p><p>In cases of refractive error, the ophthalmologist prescribes glasses to achieve the proper level of vision.
