data-tab=\"1\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-3451\" tabindex=\"0\" hidden=\"false\"><p>Xanthelasmas appear as skin lesions in the form of yellow, flat spots or plaques. They usually develop on the inner corners of all four eyelids and contain accumulated cholesterol-rich cells.<\/p><p>They are mainly caused by high cholesterol levels or familial hypercholesterolemia, but can also appear in individuals with normal blood cholesterol levels.<\/p><p>They are observed in adults, both men and women aged 40\u201360, but are often also found in younger individuals.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-tab-title elementor-tab-mobile-title\" aria-selected=\"false\" data-tab=\"2\" role=\"tab\" tabindex=\"-1\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-3452\" aria-expanded=\"false\">Symptoms<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-3452\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"2\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-3452\" tabindex=\"0\" hidden=\"hidden\"><p>They are harmless, measuring 2\u201330 millimeters. They are not accompanied by pain, itching, or any other symptom.<\/p><p>They do not affect vision and do not transform into malignancy.<\/p><p>The issue xanthelasmas cause is purely aesthetic and does not indicate underlying pathology.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-tab-title elementor-tab-mobile-title\" aria-selected=\"false\" data-tab=\"3\" role=\"tab\" tabindex=\"-1\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-3453\" aria-expanded=\"false\">Treatment<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-3453\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"3\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-3453\" tabindex=\"0\" hidden=\"hidden\"><p>Check blood cholesterol levels and administer medication if they are high.<\/p><p>Essentially, xanthelasmas are treated in two ways:<\/p><ol style=\"margin: 16px 0px; padding: 0px 0px 0px 25px; background-color: #ffffff;\"><li>Complete surgical removal of the cholesterol plaques. This requires local anesthesia, and very fine sutures are placed and then covered with thin strips. Postoperatively, the patient experiences mild discomfort and slight swelling, which lasts a few days and completely subsides by the end of the first week. The aesthetic result is excellent.<\/li><li>Use of appropriate <a href=\"https:\/\/eye-center.gr\/glaykoma-mia-nea-therapeia-slt-laser\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"\u0393\u03bb\u03b1\u03cd\u03ba\u03c9\u03bc\u03b1\">laser<\/a><\/li><\/ol><ul style=\"margin: 16px 0px; padding: 0px 0px 0px 25px; background-color: #ffffff;\"><li style=\"list-style-type: none;\"><br \/><ul style=\"margin-right: 0px; margin-left: 0px; padding: 0px 0px 0px 25px;\"><li>Cryotherapy, where cold nitrogen freezes the xanthelasma, or<\/li><li>CO\u2082 <a href=\"https:\/\/eye-center.gr\/glaykoma-mia-nea-therapeia-slt-laser\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"\u0393\u03bb\u03b1\u03cd\u03ba\u03c9\u03bc\u03b1\">laser<\/a>, which burns the lesion.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><p>Destruction of the plaques causes a wound and a bothersome recovery period requiring frequent wound care.<\/p><p>Xanthelasmas can recur in both treatment methods.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Aesthetic Ophthalmology and Eyelid Plastic Surgery Department Ectropion Entropion Xanthelasmas What they are Symptoms Treatment What they are Xanthelasmas appear as skin lesions in the form of yellow, flat spots or plaques.
