Andreas Karidis – Eye Center

He received his training at the “Pammakaristos” Hospital of Athens, beginning in 2008, where he completed his specialization in ophthalmic surgery.

Dr. Andreas Karidis is an ophthalmic surgeon specializing in glaucoma.

Born and raised in Kalamata, he studied at the Carol Davila University of Medicine in Bucharest, graduating in 2000.
After completing his military service, he worked for two years as a rural doctor at the Health Center of Agios Nikolaos and the Regional Medical Office of Kardamyli, Messinia.

In 2004, he began his collaboration with the Laboratory for Experimental Surgery and Surgical Research “N. Christeas,” under the supervision of Professor D. Perrea, serving as a researcher. There, he completed his doctoral thesis titled “Study of the Neurogenic Factor NGF in an Experimental Model of New Zealand Rabbits with Glaucoma”, and in 2014 he was awarded a PhD from the Medical School of the University of Athens with distinction.

He pursued further training in glaucoma and cataract surgery at Bristol University Hospital in the United Kingdom—a leading ophthalmic referral center—for two years, under the supervision of Professors J. Sparrow and M. Greaney. He also trained in retinal and ocular inflammatory diseases at the Royal Surrey County Hospital and St. Mary’s University Hospital in London, working for two years in paid clinical and research positions under Professors S. Lightman and S. Taylor.

He subsequently assumed the position of Head of the Glaucoma Department at Huddersfield Hospital, where he performed a large number of glaucoma and anterior segment surgeries.

During his five-year tenure abroad, he gained extensive experience in complex and specialized cases, as well as in cataract surgery.
Since 2023, he has been the scientific director of the Phacos Day Surgery Ophthalmic Unit

  • He holds the European Diploma in Ophthalmology (Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology, Paris 2012).
  • He is a member of the European Glaucoma Society (EGS).
  • He serves as the Secretary of the Hellenic Ocular Surface and Dry Eye Society (HOSDES).
